FILM STUDY: LESBIAN CONNECTION CHARACTER STUDY: LILY CADE

THEMES: Pornography, Kabbalistic Judaism

  • This lecture goes into the indoctrination of religion and the conditioning of mainstream media regarding sexuality.  It is the patriarchal view of toxic masculinity.  From this position, I pursue my first Holy Erotica experiment — a confrontation with two lesbian adult actresses.   This explosive step into erotic filmmaking includes a bombastic encounter with the Ark of the Covenant, and form there Kabbalistic Judaism.

HYPOTHESIS: Does genuine intimacy between women exist, or is it merely a product of the male gaze in pornography?

FILMMAKERS LOG 070420 |

I posted a Craigslist ad seeking to film an interview with two women from different backgrounds about a first-time experience. I never expected two adult film actresses to respond. This was exactly the type of "performance" I had hoped to avoid—yet, perhaps it was fate.

Before the interview began, I made it clear I was only interested in the conversation. But midway, a kiss happened. What followed stretched my limits. I stayed behind the camera, filming. In that moment, I realized there was only one way I could process what was unfolding: I had to worship.

This experience led to a profound realization and FIRST BELIEF: Sexuality and spirituality are not opposites, as I once believed as a Christian, but synonyms. Body and spirit are not separate; they are one. To separate them denies gnosis—a deep, unifying knowledge that arises when body and spirit are seen as inseparable.

WOMEN RESPONSES

FILM STUDY 011917 | Editing to Empathy

When I screen Just For One Day for men, the response is typically quiet. But when women watch it, they cry or are deeply moved. Why? What are they experiencing that I, as the filmmaker, am not? To explore this, I conducted a film study.

I asked women to send me their text responses, then created a montage of their words, letting it — not me — guide the editing. This process informed my music choices and helped me connect with their emotions. As I edited, I embodied their feelings. It was in that moment I realized: their emotions were becoming mine.

This study taught me the power of embodying the viewer’s experience. Editing became a way to heal emotional numbness, carve new neural pathways, and re-associate emotions to overcome shame. Through this practice, I discovered that editing is a profound tool for emotional healing.

TO HOLD EROTICISM, I HAD TO WORSHIP.

N / O

BEYOND THE STUDY |

After receiving positive reviews, I sought to understand the healing thread in my film. Was it due to the subject, the eroticism, or something within me? To explore this, I began by immersing myself in my subject's world of pornography.

This journey also impacted my own love life. Some of these personal insights are featured in the Gallery for the COHE.

LILY CADE | FILM STUDY SUBJECT

Just For One Day marked the start of my friendship with Lily Cade, a lesbian adult actress who later became embroiled in the #MeToo scandal. This revelation shook my confidence in my work. Was my film sacred or just a tool for perpetuating abuse? Heartbroken, I questioned whether the thread I was following was truly authentic.

A year later, Lily returned to my camera with a powerful account of remorse. She spent hours deconstructing the porn industry, her own addictions, and what was real. She showed empathy for men in the post-#MeToo world, relating to their struggles.

Her story was compelling. It honored both men and me. She acknowledged that her time on camera with me wasn’t pornography—it was real. I was relieved. The thread I had followed was still true.

In conclusion, an authentic connection between my subjects did occur. What I felt between them was genuine, though it’s open to interpretation. This interview is available in the Gallery for the COHE.
