PURITY TRAILER | Study of Deconstruction
This video artifact is an emotional deconstruction of purity culture—told from the inside out, through the raw lens of my own soul. It’s a visceral climb out of a pit of footage and podcast interviews, edited with urgency and emotion to shake loose the numbness and dissociation in my heart.
In curating this piece as a developmental tool for a future documentary, I unknowingly reshaped the neural grooves of my being. The feelings came first in the edit—before I could feel them in my own body.
GUNS AND SEX | Study of America
This video explores America’s conflicted relationship with guns and sex. After the 2020 Atlanta spa shooting, I was unsettled to feel more empathy for the evangelical male shooter with a sex-addiction than for the women-victims of my race—reflecting my own struggles with sex-shaming beliefs and cultural objectification of dark-skinned women.
Visiting the site and healing through erotic work reconnected me to my indigenous roots and revealed how conquest-driven Christianity severs us from our cultural and spiritual Source.
This artifact, with insights from sex educator Dr. Mark Schoen, opens a dialogue on the deep contradiction between America’s celebration of guns and shame of sex. This subject should be front and center, not danced around.
PURIFIED TRAILER | Study of Story
Producers of NPR’s Embodied radio show reached out after hearing my Holy Erotica work and featured me on a record-breaking episode on purity culture. This led to a live story slam event on the same theme.
Unfortunately, interest in the purity culture documentary waned as our activity started to peak. I lost a position to share my story live on stage, something I deeply aspired for way before the podcast, to fully produce this piece as a one-man crew, to give production value and gravitas for the other storytellers.
This artifact stands as a reminder that you can pour your energy into others and still lose sight of yourself. Gospel of the Body is my way of creating another stage for myself.
